What are some of the incision patterns?
Periareolar incision: The incision encircles the areolar, with the scar hidden in the darker pigments. This type of incision is useful when a breast lift is being performed in conjunction with your augmentation.
Inframammary incision: Inframammary means situated below the breasts. This incision is created within the natural breast crease where scars can be strategically hidden from view.
Transaxillary incision: This incision is made within the armpits so that no scars are made on the breasts.
It is important to remember that not one incision is necessarily better than the other and your final choice of incision pattern will depend on your body type, choice of size and texture of implants, and personal aesthetic goals.
Types of breast implants
Silicone
These implants are offered in many different sizes, shapes and textures, so you will be able to find just the right implants to suit your preference and body type. Silicone implants are natural to the eye and the touch and hold their shape well over time.
Saline
Saline implants require a smaller incision, making them a better choice for those concerned with scarring. They can be inserted through the transaxillary incision and then filled with saline solution once they are inside the breast pocket. Some consider them safer, since if they rupture, the harmless saline fluid is simply absorbed by the body.
Gummy Bear
Gummy bear implants are considered “form-stable” and contain a thick yet soft gel. They are formed in a teardrop shape that most naturally resembles the authentic female breast.
How about implant location?
There are three surgical approaches for the placement of breast implants. For women with sufficient existing breast tissue, the implant may be placed beneath the natural breast tissue (subglandular). For women with limited breast tissue, the implants may be placed beneath the chest muscle (submuscular). In some cases, your surgeon may choose to combine the two approaches (dual-plane).
Subglandular: The implants are placed beneath the breast tissue.
Submuscular: The implants are placed beneath the pectoral muscles.
Dual-plane The implants are placed partially beneath the pectoral muscles.
What can I expect from my recovery?
