What is Latisse?
Hypotrichosis is a medical term that is used when you don't have enough eyelashes. Luckily we have Latisse as our solution. Latisse is the only prescription eyelash product approved in Canada to grow your natural eyelashes longer, fuller and darker. Although it requires a prescription, it can be applied by the patient without the doctor and it never requires any surgical procedure.
Who is a candidate for Latisse?
If you are disappointed with the thickness, shape, length, or darkness of your eyelashes and you live in the Toronto area, Latisse may be the solution for you. Simply book a consultation with us at the Canadian Dermatology and Plastic Surgery Centre to discuss your options.
Why Latisse?
Unlike synthetic solutions, eyelashes that have been enhanced by Latisse remain completely natural, thus resulting in a more natural aesthetic for the eyes and face of the patient.
How do I apply the product?
Latisse is remarkably easy to use. All you need to do is dab the solution along your eyelash line once a day using the provided sterile applicator. You should start by ensuring your face is clean, all makeup is removed, and contact lenses are removed (if applicable). Then carefully place one drop of Latisse solution on the disposable sterile applicator and brush cautiously along the skin of the upper eyelid margin at the base of the eyelashes. When used consistently, you will quickly see profound results that include longer, darker and thicker eyelashes.
You should be informed not to apply to the lower eyelash line. Also, any excess solution outside the upper eyelid margin should be blotted with a tissue or other absorbent material.

What if I discontinue the use of Latisse?
If you discontinue the use of Latisse for whatever reason, your eyelashes will gradually return to the state they were in before you started using it.
Adverse reactions from Latisse
Latisse is a prostaglandin analog that may cause side effects in select patients and can have adverse reactions when used simultaneously with certain products.
The most common adverse reaction occurs when Latisse is used concurrently with any IOP-lower prostaglandin analog in ocular hypertensive patients. This commonly causes permanent changes in iris pigmentation.
Possible side effects from Latisse
Some side effects identified in patients using Latisse are:
- Unexpected hair growth on portions of the skin that Latisse regularly touches
- A permanent increase in the brown pigmentation of the colored portion of the eye
- Eye pruritus, commonly known as itchy eye
- Conjunctival hyperemia which is characterized by redness in the white of the eye
- Skin hyperpigmentation on the eyelid, which is a darkening of the eyelid skin and is usually reversible
