If you are unhappy with the appearance of your upper arms we are here to help. Many of our arm lift patients felt self-conscious about the sagging skin and excess fat on their arms before coming to us. At the Canadain Plastic Surgery Centre, we have an excellent solution known as Toronto arm lift that can help sculpt and rejuvenate the upper arms so you can start feeling good and more confident about your appearance.

What is an arm lift?

Excess skin draping down from the upper arms is frequently experienced by individuals as they age or after drastic weight loss. The skin on the upper arm is thin and has little resilience, thus is often problematic as the skin and fat persists even after exercise. An arm lift surgery, technically known as a brachioplasty, is a straightforward surgery that functions to remove the excess skin and soft tissue below the arms giving patients a smoother, more toned appearance.

Arm lift at a glance

  • Summary: Arm lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to removes excess skin and fat from the upper arms.

  • Alternative names: Brachioplasty

  • Length of surgery: 2-3 hours

  • Anesthesia: General

  • Recovery period: 1-2 weeks off from work and 4-6 weeks before resuming physical activity

Am I a candidate for an arm lift?

During your consultation with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons, they will examine you closely and determine whether arm lift surgery is the right option for you.

Ideal candidates are individuals who are in good health and experience one of the following:

  • Disproportionately large upper arms compared to lower arms and body mass
  • Poorly toned and/or wrinkled skin on the upper arms
  • Dissatisfaction with the shape, texture and appearance of the arms
  • Willingness to accept a lengthwise permanent scar in exchange for the above cosmetic enhancements of an arm lift

Arm lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia. During the procedure, your plastic surgeon will make an incision that runs from your underarm to your elbow. He/she will then remove excess fat and skin and finish with multiple layers of surgical stitches that are designed to leave as little scarring as possible.

It is important to remember that the final scar will be on the back of the arms and it will be permanent. Although the scar will fade out over time and become minimally visible, the permanent nature and placement of the scar should be considered prior to proceeding with surgery.

What are the advantages of an arm lift in Toronto?

What will my recovery be like?

Although arm lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia, it doesn't require an overnight stay in the hospital. Surgical staff will monitor you for a short time after the procedure is completed and then you may return home with follow-up appointments arranged.

You are likely to experience mild to moderate pain for a few days, which can be adequately controlled with pain medications. Mild activity may resume 2 weeks following surgery but strenuous activities should be avoided for about 6 weeks total.
