The Canadian Dermatology and Plastic Surgery Centre in Toronto is thrilled to offer Fraxel laser technology. Fraxel laser is a relatively new approach to treating aging and sun damaged skin. It can offer results that are more dramatic than other non-ablative laser technologies, but without the side effect profiles of ablative lasers. It is a formula to looking noticeably younger without surgery.

What is Fraxel?

Fraxel laser is used to perform fractional laser treatment for various skin conditions. It is the solution to blasting away imperfections for good. You can take many of your skin concerns, such as hyperpigmentation, acne scars, dullness, and fine lines, and peel them all away to reveal a new layer of glowy, healthy skin. It is able to achieve all this without surgery or injections and with minimal downtime.

Is Fraxel effective?

Fraxel is shown to be effective on the following:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Surface scarring - such as acne
  • Pigmentation (age spots)
  • Sun damage
  • Actinic keratosis

Fraxel laser treatment targets aging and sun-damaged skin with microscopic laser columns that penetrate deep into your skin to expedite your body's remodeling of collagen. And since the laser treats only a fraction of tissue at a time, it leaves the surrounding tissue intact, which promotes very rapid healing. It resurfaces your skin by stimulating the growth of new, healthy skin cells from the inside out.

What happens during my Fraxel treatment?

First, your skin is cleaned before a topical numbing agent is applied to the targeted area. Then a microphone-like wand is placed over the problem areas to deliver pinpoint laser beams that eliminate damaged skin cells.

Fraxel doesn't require general anesthesia, although relaxants may be given depending on your anxiety level. It also does not need any special preparation, and since the procedure is outpatient based, your can immediately return to your daily activities right after the procedure.

Each treatment lasts for at least 2 hours, and it may take 1 to 4 sessions to see significant improvements. A complete treatment plan, however, may take three to six months.

What are the benefits of Fraxel treatments?

  • Smoother, fresher, and younger-looking skin
  • Improved tone and texture
  • Reduction of unwanted brown spots
  • Reduced fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes
  • Improved appearance of acne scars and surgical scars

Re-Opening June 8th Update

As a valued member of the Canadian Dermatology & Plastic Surgery Centre, we want to personally update you on steps our practice has taken to protect you and your health in light of the COVID-19 situation.

As it has always been, the safety and health of our patients and staff members remain our highest priority. We want to thank you for your support and the confidence you have in our practice. In response to the coronavirus (COVID-19), we have taken the guidelines from the Ministry of Health and have added the following extra measures to protect our patients:

  1. A COVID-19 screening questionnaire must be completed prior to your appointment.
  2. Upon arrival for your appointment, you will be asked to check-in while in your car and one of our staff member will come and meet you at the door.
  3. Patients must arrive wearing their own face masks, and continue to wear them in office until taken into the exam room, and sanitize their hands upon arrival.
  4. We have spaced out the waiting room area and decreased our daily patient volume to reduce the likelihood of crowding.
  5. We have installed plastic barriers at the front desk for the safety of our staff and patients.
  6. Social distancing is seen as the most effective way of slowing the spread of the virus causing COVID-19. Patients should avoid close contact, minimize interaction, and put distance between themselves and other patients within the office.
  7. We will continue to provide virtual consultation options to patients who would like to see our specialists virtually.
